Announcing 2018 FAST Projects: Five Programs that Increase Diversity, Improve Program Evaluation or Leverage Technology to Provide Statewide TA and Training Awarded Supplementary Project Funds

In July of 2017, AUCD indicated an ability to provide supplementary funding and targeted assistance to programs working to address these identified areas of need in ways that could be replicated by other programs or could benefit the broader network. After careful review of a diverse pool of program proposals, five programs were selected to receive Focused Assistance to Support Training (FAST) Projects which includes up to $8,000 in supplemental funding.

Training Focused Summary of Federal Transition Report

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) released the 2017 Report to Congress: Young Adults and Transitioning Youth with Autism Spectrum Disorder, which found that there is a critical need for research and better coordinated services targeted to youth with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) who are transitioning to adulthood. �ITAC staff developed a brief summary of the HHS report that pulled out items relevant to the LEND and DBP training programs.

Health Communications Experts from the National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities (NCBDDD) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) joined us on the line for an overview of CDC's FREE, new Milestone Tracker app. During this webinar participants will learn more about the app's unique features, receive tips on how to use the app to boost family engagement around developmental monitoring and screening, and get ideas for how to help promote the app in their communities. CDC developed the Milestone Tracker app to offer a fun and easy way to engage parents and other care providers in the important activity of monitoring children's early development.

ITAC

The Interdisciplinary Technical Assistance Center on Autism and Developmental Disabilities (ITAC) provides technical assistance to LENDs and DBPs to better train professionals to utilize valid and reliable screening tools to diagnose or rule out and provide evidence-based interventions for children with ASD and other developmental disabilities. The ITAC website contains news, resources, and information tailored for LENDs and DPBs as well as the medical and public health communities and families of children with ASD/DD. ITAC and its projects were designed in collaboration with federal staff, program directors, and families of children with autism spectrum disorders and other developmental disabilities.
